BURLEY – Cassia County Sheriff’s officers are investigating the discovery of a dead body on the northwest lawn of Cassia Regional Medical Center today shortly after noon.
Officers were called to the scene where a body lay on the lawn, just north of the visitor parking lot, at about 1 p.m. Investigators immediately traveled to the scene with their evidence trailer, taped off the area and began a thorough investigation of what officers are being very tight lipped about.
Cassia County Sheriff Randy Kidd is on his way back from Boise, as it the undersheriff, an officer reported. He could give no details as to who discovered the body, how it got there or any circumstances surrounding the death.
Cassia County Deputy Doug Welch said only that a press release would be issued as soon as the department had something it could report.
The body appeared to have one shoe on and one shoe off. It was laying supine on the grass. Officers immediately surrounded the area and draped a large tarp around it while the coroner checked the body, then it was covered with the tarp while the investigation continued.
A press release posted late Friday night indicated the woman appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
