Local church provides… The Flavor of Christmas

BURLEY – Long lines of people loading boxes of food are getting to be a common site at Mt. View Christian Center in Burley.

Just in time for Christmas, the church once again pulled together food of all kinds to provide to local families on Tuesday,  with a little added extra.

There were cookies and specialty breads, fresh, frozen and dehydrated potato products, pasta, and various kinds of meats and/or a turkey.

“Our first effort was a plan we put together with the South Central Community Action Partnership,” said Chris Bean, who serves as the church’s foodbank director and a representative to the Idaho Food Bank.

“We were providing all USDA food at that time and getting some help for our food kitchen, and from there this has just grown.”

Bean said the church is preparing to build a warehouse where non-perishable foods will be stored and which will allow the program to continue its expansion.

“We will be a choice market, where people will bring their shopping lists and get those things we are able to provide.”

Because of the sudden and extreme growth of the program, the church is now pre-registering people who want to get food boxes.

“Our mission is to see that those who need food get food,” Bean said.

“For that reason, it is essential that those wishing to participate either come to the church, or call on the second Tuesday of each month to be sure and get signed up for the distribution.”

Phone numbers which will allow access to the preregistration are 878-5451 and 878-5504. People can also visit the church to preregister.
