RUPERT – On June 17, 2013, local area veterinarian Dr. Jeffrey Heins was honored by the Idaho Veterinarian Medical Association with the 43rd Veterinarian of the Year Award.
“I’m flattered,” said Heins. “I feel honored that I was even considered for the award.”
The award was selectively given to Heins in recognition of his outstanding achievements and accomplishments. Heins has contributed to the veterinary profession as well as the Veterinary Association during his many years of experience.
Heins operates from the Rupert Animal Clinic in Rupert where he dedicates his efforts toward helping animals in the Mini-Cassia area.
Heins has served the area for over 27 years after earning his veterinary degree from Washington State University in 1984. Heins has been a member of the IVMA as well as a local constituency member of the Professional Association since that time.
Heins has served as an IVMA board member as well as acting as IVMA President in 2003. Heins is a volunteer of the Civil Air Patrol and has served on the advisory board for the Minidoka Memorial Hospital and Rupert area schools.
Heins’ name was submitted by the Magic Valley Veterinarian Medical Association where he was considered by colleagues.
“I’m honored and humbled,” Heins said.
“That they thought enough of what I’ve done to submit my name is an honor.”
The award recipient is selected by past award winners. Past recipients recoginize colleagues based on their achievements and Heins was chosen due to his exceptional service and dedication to the veterinary sciences.
