Burley Highway Commissioners Organize

Set Tuesday, Sept. 7 as day for bond election and fix amount for which district is to be bonded at $75,000.

BURLEY – The Burley Highway District commissioners organized Wednesday, with Albert Pleoger, President of the Board; John Stoddard, Secretary; Dick Anderson, member; and W. E. Abraham and J.C.
Rogers, attorneys.

After thoro consideration and upon the recommendation of the state engineer the board decided to call an election to pass upon the issuance of $75,000 (dollar) bond issue, for the purpose of building roads in the district.

Tuesday, Sept. 7, was set as the day of the election.

The state engineer’s office estimated that the state highway through the district will cost $75,000. The state will put up $25,000, leaving the district to supply $50,000. The remaining $25,000 to be voted will be used in the district to improve and build roads on the most important highways along which the school
wagons run and the products of the farms of the district are hauled.

Should this bond issue fail to carry, it will be the duty of the Highway District Commissioners to levy a tax upon the property within the district heavy enough to build and repair the roads and under those conditions the taxes for road purposes will be heavier than if the bonds are voted and 20 years taken in
which to pay them.

The bond issue offers the most effective and cheapest means of raising money to keep the roads in the
district.
