Hogs on canals
Complaints from farmers who make domestic use of water
ALBION – The practice of farmers on the project allowing their hogs to run on the canals, is being bitterly protested against by people who have no wells and are forced to use ditch water for domestic purposes.
Water in some cisterns filled recently has become unfit to use within a few days because of the filth carried into the water by the hogs.
The county Board of Health has been appealed to, but it seems that it has no power in the matter. As a member of the Board of Health put it:
“In a case of this kind, between a man and a hog, the laws of Idaho seem to favor the hog.”
However, the practice can be stopped by reclamation officials as the hogs can be kept off the canal rights of way.
