Commissioners to meet at Declo

DECLO – The Cassia county commissioners will be in the Declo area on the afternoon of Monday, April 16, 2012 at 1:30 P.M.
They will meet in the Declo City Council Chambers/Firehouse (8 North Clark Street Declo, Idaho).
Come and discuss issues relevant to your community with your County Commissioners and other elected officials.

Rupert Recreation sign-ups
RUPERT – Sign ups for Boys and Girls Baseball season is underway, from April 10, 2012 to April  26, 2012. Cost is $16. T-ball for ages 4-7; Pitching Machin for 8-10; and Live pitch 11-13 for boys and 11-14 for girls.
Signup sheets are available at the Heyburn, Paul and Rupert City Halls, Donnelley Sports in Burley and on the City of Rupert website.

 

 

Rupert flushing hydrants
RUPERT – In order to keep the City of Rupert’s water system clean and system maintenance up to date, the Rupert Fire Department will be flushing fire hydrants throughout the City all day Friday, April 20, 2012 and in the evenings on Monday, April 23, 2012 thru Friday, April 27, 2012 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Should residents experience brown water, let it run until it clears up. It is best if you can run the water on your lawn with a hose. If you still have brown water, contact law enforcement and they will get hold of us to take care of the problem.
City officials appreciate your cooperation and hope this does not create an inconvenience.

 


CSI sets basic photo class

BURLEY  – The College of Southern Idaho’s Mini-Cassia Community Education Center is offering the non-credit class Basic Photo and Landscape, taught by John Berglund, beginning on Thursday, April 19 at the CSI Mini-Cassia campus in Burley.
In this course, students will explore basic photography and learn how to take better photos of landscapes to preserve the beauty of the seasons to share for years. Learn all the basics from cleaning your camera to how everything in your camera works.
Basic Photo and Landscape will be held on Thursdays, April 19 through May 10 from 7-9 pm at the CSI Mini-Cassia Campus. The cost to register is $50, which includes a location fieldtrip. Students may register at http://communityed.csi.edu. Class size is limited so early registration is suggested.

Meet the Candidate Night
BURLEY – There will be a “Meet the Candidate” Night held at 1346 Overland Avenue, in Burley, on Thursday evening, April 12, at 7 p.m.
Local and state candidates will be there to answer your questions and talk about issues. The event is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend,.

Shiver And Shoot slated
RUPERT – The Minidoka Bowmen are sponsoring a Shiver and Shoot on Saturday, April 14, at 9 a.m.
This will be a fun shoot for everyone. Binoculars can be used, and range finders, but no broadheads and no alcoholic beverages are to be used or brought to the site.
All targets will be Rinehart targents.

To get to the shoot, take Exit 216, go north over the river to Baseline Road. Turn right, go about four miles and turn left at 1250 East. Go to 775 North and the event will be on the right side of the road.

Relay For Life yardsale
RUPERT – To all the Community: The annual Rupert United Methodist Church-sponsored Relay for Life multi-family yard sale will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the front lawn at 605 H St.
The proceeds will go to the Mini-Cassia Relay For Life.

Luna to visit Burley
BURLEY – The State Department of Education is hosting a Post-Leg¬islative Tour with schools and dis¬tricts across Idaho April 9-17.
As part of this series of meet¬ings, Superintendent Luna is set¬ting aside time to meet with the parent leaders who volunteer and work hard in our schools each and every day. Superintendent Luna would like to invite you to join him and other parents on Thursday, April 12 at 7 p.m. at Burley High School in the Little Theater to dis¬cuss what’s happening in your lo¬cal school and community.

Earth Day participation sought
MINI-CASSIA – The local Soil and Water Conservation Service is encouraging everyone to par¬ticipate in this year’s annual Earth Day Celebration by planting a tree or shrub to make the community more beautiful.
Earth Day is Sunday, April 22, 2012. Plan to plant a tree or shrub in your neighborhood, park or at a local school.
Seedling trees are now avail¬able from the Soil and Water Con¬servation District by calling 678-1225, Ext. 100.

Chili Con Carnival set
BURLEY – Crossroads Bible Church will be holding their 2nd Annual “Chili Con Carnival” on Saturday, April 14th from 4-7 p.m.
This is an event that is free for the whole family. Much like har¬vest carnivals, there will be games, prizes and candy. There will be a funny photo booth, cupcake walk and a pie throw (whip cream) booth as well. Chili and cinnamon rolls will be served.
If anyone would like to make a donation, please bring canned goods, ramen noodles or mac & cheese to be donated to the Help¬ing Hands Mission. CBC is located at the corner of 16th and Park Ave in Burley – across from CSI.

BHS Class seeks members
BURLEY – The Burley High School class of 1962 is holding its 50th Class Reunion on August 18, 2012, and organizers have been unable to locate the follow¬ing classmates: Mary Jo Eastman; Deon Hodge; Ima Jean Thurston Christensen, George Ann Hall; Jim Wallace; Eileen Hansen; and Jackie Gransbury. BURLEY – Scholarships are available to Cassia County high school students planning to at¬tend college this fall in an AG related field.

Food preservation workshop set
RUPERT – The University of Ida¬ho Cooperative Extension Agency will hold a Home Food Preserva¬tion Workshop at the Minidoka County Extension office, 85 East Baseline Road, in Rupert, on Tues¬days and Thursdays, April 12, 17 and 19, 2012, from 6 – 8 p.m., with a lab on Saturday, April 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Cost of the event is $40, which includes notebooks, publications, and lab supplies.

The class will cover food safety aspects of home preservation, boiling water bath canning, pres¬sure canning, freezing and drying of foods, all presented by Univer¬sity of Idaho Extension Educator Grace Wittman.

RUPERT – Plans are under¬way for the 20-year Minico High School reunion. We are looking for all classmates who graduated from Minico in 1992.

RUPERT – A benefit event for Steve Antone Jr. is being held Fri¬day, April 20, 2012 held at the Elk’s Lodge in Rupert.
Steve Antone, Jr. has been diag¬nosed with ALS , (Lou Gehrig’s dis¬ease). Medical bills are mounting up, so family and friends of Steve are holding a special night to raise funds to help the family.
Come support the family and enjoy an eventful evening, and bid on great auction items. Local Entertainment by Fourplay, Marley Antone & Tye Thompson on his guitar. Interdenominational choir
BURLEY – An Interdenomi¬national Spanish Choir will per¬form for the Celebration of Faith through Music, on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at 7 p.m. at the King Fine Arts Center.
Practices will be held Sundays from 5-6 p.m. March 25, April 8, and April 15, at the Church of Je-sus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2200 Oakley Avenue, Burley. Ev¬eryone is welcome to participate.

Bereavement classes starting

BURLEY – Bereavement education groups, sponsored by Cassia Regional Medical Center and In¬termountain Homecare, are start¬ing once again. They are open to the community, and there is NO COST to attend. The bereavement education groups offer emotional support, education about griev-ing, and an opportunity to become acquainted with others who have experienced the loss of a loved one who has died.
Dates & Time are every Monday from 5 – 6:30 p.m. at Cassia Regional Medical Center through May 7th.

RUPERT – The public is invited to attend a local public Bible meet¬ing each Thursday, at the Rupert Senior Citizen building at 702 11th St., in Rupert at 7:30 p.m.

PAUL – The Paul Baptist Church is holding AWANA each Wednes¬day at 6:30 p.m. youngsters from age 3 through the sixth grade.

Grief support group meets
RUPERT – Are you grieving the loss of a loved one?
A support group is available. We meet in the church building behind the D L Evans Bank in Ru-pert. The address is South 4th and H Street. The time is Sundays, from 4 – 6 p.m., for 13 consecutive weeks.

Muzzleloaders meet
MINI-CASSIA – The Oregon Trail Muzzleloaders monthly meeting is held the first Wednesday of each month.

Anyone interested in blackpow¬der shooting is invited to attend. The club shoot is the second Sat¬urday of each month at 650 South and 1250 East, in Albion. Come join in and have fun.

Café Mom slated
HEYBURN – M4C(Mini Cas¬sia Community Church) at 720 J Street in Heyburn is starting a pro-gram called Cafe Mom – an informal play date for Moms and kids.
It will be held on each Wednes¬day, from 10-11:30 a.m. at the church.

    Could you please put in your Community Events the upcoming Rupert Community Blood Drive. It will be May 7th at the Rupert Community Civic Center 12:00 – 6:00. “Spring is bringing new growth making the world we live in a beautiful place. Let’s spring on over to give blood so someone that may need it can enjoy the beautiful place we live in.” To make an appointment please call Marie Hansen at 436-0360.
