Commissioners to meet at Declo
DECLO – The Cassia county commissioners will be in the Declo area on the afternoon of Monday, April 16, 2012 at 1:30 P.M.
They will meet in the Declo City Council Chambers/Firehouse (8 North Clark Street Declo, Idaho).
Come and discuss issues relevant to your community with your County Commissioners and other elected officials.
Rupert Recreation sign-ups
RUPERT – Sign ups for Boys and Girls Baseball season is underway, from April 10, 2012 to April 26, 2012. Cost is $16. T-ball for ages 4-7; Pitching Machin for 8-10; and Live pitch 11-13 for boys and 11-14 for girls.
Signup sheets are available at the Heyburn, Paul and Rupert City Halls, Donnelley Sports in Burley and on the City of Rupert website.
Rupert flushing hydrants
RUPERT – In order to keep the City of Rupert’s water system clean and system maintenance up to date, the Rupert Fire Department will be flushing fire hydrants throughout the City all day Friday, April 20, 2012 and in the evenings on Monday, April 23, 2012 thru Friday, April 27, 2012 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Should residents experience brown water, let it run until it clears up. It is best if you can run the water on your lawn with a hose. If you still have brown water, contact law enforcement and they will get hold of us to take care of the problem.
City officials appreciate your cooperation and hope this does not create an inconvenience.
CSI sets basic photo class
BURLEY – The College of Southern Idaho’s Mini-Cassia Community Education Center is offering the non-credit class Basic Photo and Landscape, taught by John Berglund, beginning on Thursday, April 19 at the CSI Mini-Cassia campus in Burley.
In this course, students will explore basic photography and learn how to take better photos of landscapes to preserve the beauty of the seasons to share for years. Learn all the basics from cleaning your camera to how everything in your camera works.
Basic Photo and Landscape will be held on Thursdays, April 19 through May 10 from 7-9 pm at the CSI Mini-Cassia Campus. The cost to register is $50, which includes a location fieldtrip. Students may register at http://communityed.csi.edu. Class size is limited so early registration is suggested.
Meet the Candidate Night
BURLEY – There will be a “Meet the Candidate” Night held at 1346 Overland Avenue, in Burley, on Thursday evening, April 12, at 7 p.m.
Local and state candidates will be there to answer your questions and talk about issues. The event is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend,.
Shiver And Shoot slated
RUPERT – The Minidoka Bowmen are sponsoring a Shiver and Shoot on Saturday, April 14, at 9 a.m.
This will be a fun shoot for everyone. Binoculars can be used, and range finders, but no broadheads and no alcoholic beverages are to be used or brought to the site.
All targets will be Rinehart targents.

To get to the shoot, take Exit 216, go north over the river to Baseline Road. Turn right, go about four miles and turn left at 1250 East. Go to 775 North and the event will be on the right side of the road.
Relay For Life yardsale
RUPERT – To all the Community: The annual Rupert United Methodist Church-sponsored Relay for Life multi-family yard sale will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the front lawn at 605 H St.
The proceeds will go to the Mini-Cassia Relay For Life.

Earth Day participation sought
MINI-CASSIA – The local Soil and Water Conservation Service is encouraging everyone to par¬ticipate in this year’s annual Earth Day Celebration by planting a tree or shrub to make the community more beautiful.
Earth Day is Sunday, April 22, 2012. Plan to plant a tree or shrub in your neighborhood, park or at a local school.

Chili Con Carnival set
BURLEY – Crossroads Bible Church will be holding their 2nd Annual “Chili Con Carnival” on Saturday, April 14th from 4-7 p.m.
This is an event that is free for the whole family. Much like har¬vest carnivals, there will be games, prizes and candy. There will be a funny photo booth, cupcake walk and a pie throw (whip cream) booth as well. Chili and cinnamon rolls will be served.

Food preservation workshop set
RUPERT – The University of Ida¬ho Cooperative Extension Agency will hold a Home Food Preserva¬tion Workshop at the Minidoka County Extension office, 85 East Baseline Road, in Rupert, on Tues¬days and Thursdays, April 12, 17 and 19, 2012, from 6 – 8 p.m., with a lab on Saturday, April 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Cost of the event is $40, which includes notebooks, publications, and lab supplies.

The class will cover food safety aspects of home preservation, boiling water bath canning, pres¬sure canning, freezing and drying of foods, all presented by Univer¬sity of Idaho Extension Educator Grace Wittman.

Bereavement classes starting
BURLEY – Bereavement education groups, sponsored by Cassia Regional Medical Center and In¬termountain Homecare, are start¬ing once again. They are open to the community, and there is NO COST to attend. The bereavement education groups offer emotional support, education about griev-ing, and an opportunity to become acquainted with others who have experienced the loss of a loved one who has died.
Dates & Time are every Monday from 5 – 6:30 p.m. at Cassia Regional Medical Center through May 7th.
