Grand Reopening at Historic Oakley
OAKLEY –  The Oakley Historic Museum has been renovated and an additional room with many items and displays have been added.
We will be having the re-opening on May 25, 2012 from 6-8 pm at the Oakley Historical Society Museum located at 140 West Main Street in Oakley.
BHS sets baccalaureate
BURLEY – The Burley High School Baccalaureate will be held at 7 p.m. May 20 at the King Fine Arts Center, 2100 Park Ave. in Burley.
The speakers will be Melissa Bedke and Garth Williams, with youth speakers Parley Pickett and Michelle Alcaraz. Music will be provided by the Burley High orchestra, BHS graduating quartet and Bel Canto Choir.

Car Show
The Mini Cassia Auto Collectors will have their 26th Annual Car Show at the Cassia County Fairgrounds on Saturday, June 2nd and Sunday, June 3rd.
Car registration is on Saturday, June 2nd from 7:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
The prices for our event are: 0-6 years – free; 7-12 years – $1; 13-69 years – $3; 70 years & over – free. If you would like to set upas, a Vendor or a Car Part Swap Meet, there is no charge.

Minico Class of ’82 Reunion
Minico High School Class of 1982 will be having their 30 year class reunion on Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Morey’s Event Center in Burley, ID.

Burley swimming classes
BURLEY – The Burley Swimming Pool will be offering a variety of classes this year including Lap Swimming, Water Aerobis, Aqua Tot, lessons for levels 1-4, private and semi private lessons. Swimming lessons will begin June 4. Payment is required at the time of registration and registration must be done in person.
Open swim for the public will begin Saturday, May 26, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. The second session of public swim will begin at 5 p.m. and end at 8:30 p.m.

Free health checks for qualifying women
MINI-CASSIA – W omens’ Health Check is a breast and cervical cancer screening program providing mammogram, clinical breast exam, and/or Pap test for women who have no other resources for annual screening or needed diagnostic tests and meet the eligibility requirements.

Grant Applications
MINI-CASSIA – Zions Bank’s Women’s Financial Group is now accepting applications for its 2012 Smart Women Grants, open to anyone whose proposal promotes the empowerment of women or directly benefits women or low-income and underserved populations in Idaho and Utah.
Six $3,000 micro-grants will be awarded.

Applications must be received or postmarked by Friday, June 29. Community peer review panels will select the grant recipients, to be announced in September.

Lunch in the Park
The Minidoka County School District is participating in the Summer Food Service program. Meals will be provided to all children ages 1-18 without charge.
Meals will be provided at the Rupert Square, Paul City Park and Heyburn GaLawn Park from June 4 to July 31st from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All lunches must be eaten in the park. No lunch will be served on July 4th.
The DeMary Memorial Library will provided story telling at each location on Fridays.
Lunch and breakfast will be served at West Minico June 4 to July 12 with breakfast at 9 to 9:30 a.m. and Lunch at 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m.
The District Service Center will provide breakfast Aug. 7-10 and August  14-17 from 10 to 10:30 a.m.

Race for Youth
The Burley Kiwanis is sponsoring a run (or walk) for the whole family. There will be a one mile race for children, a 5K for all ages, a 10K for all ages and a Duathalon; a 2 mile run, a 12 mile bike and a 2 mile run.
The race will be Saturday, June 2, 2012, at 8 a.m. at 1900 Hiland Ave in Burley.
Registration for these fun events is $15 and you get a great event T-shirt and goodie bag. There will be prizes for the top 3 in each category and raffle giveaways.

BURLEY – Registration for Kiwanis Fall Soccer now open. Register early for only $10. Sign up will be at Mountain View Elementary on Thursday, May 17, from 5 – 7pm.

RRHS Greenhouse opening
MALTA – The Raft River High School Greenhouse will be open for business starting Monday, May 14th.  Our hours are M-F noon until 5:30 p.m. and Sat 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. or by special appointment.  Please contact Cami Schumann (advisor), Jacki Carpenter or Symaron Harper (student managers) at 645-2220.
The greenhouse offers nine different types of tomatoes, including earlies, cherries, Romas, Yellow Pear, and several heirloom varieties. Sizes from small pony packs to gallon sized pots for $1.50 – $2.50. Three varieties of peppers – Sweet green, yellow bell, and jalapeno for $.75 to $2; Broccoli and purple cabbage; Prices- $1.50 quad pack.
Herbs including basil, thyme, parsley, cilantro and chives.  Prices- $.25; Everbear Strawberry plants Price- $1.50
Flowers: All in 4 packs. Prices $1.50-$2.50; Moss Roses (portulaca), Alyssum, Marigolds, Gallardia, Petunias, Salvia.

Sunday school open house
BURLEY – All parents and children ages 8-16 are invited to come learn more about our new and exciting Bible School Season that will be starting on Sept. 9, 2012 at 9:30 a.m.
The open house will be Sunday, May 20, 2012.
These classes will involve group discussions, activities, drama, field trips, music and much more.  Our curriculum will be The Bible.  First Presbyterian Church 2100 Burton Ave, Burley.

Vacation Bible School
BURLEY – The Burley United Methodist Church, 450 E 27th Street, will hold Vacation Bible School June 4-8 from 5:15 p.m. to 8 p.m.
All children ages 5-10 are welcome. Dinner will be provided.

Vacation Bible School
HEYBURN—Come have some fun this summer with Vacation Bible School! It will be June 4 to 8 at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This summer, we’re going all the way back to ancient Babylon without leaving our church!
Join Daniel as he is torn from his home and forced into a foreign king’s service but never forget that God is always there.
The event will be held at the Mini-Cassia Community Christian Church, 720 J Street, in Heyburn. It is across from Heyburn Elementary.

Cake decorating class
BURLEY–Cake Decorating, taught by Helen Bill, beginning on Tuesday, May 15 is offered as a non-credit course at the College of Southern Idaho campus in Burley.
Cake Decorating will be held on Tuesdays, May 15-29 from 6-8 p.m. The cost to register is $25 plus there is a $20 supply fee and students must bring an unfrosted cake & frosting each week to class.  Class size is limited so early registration is suggested.

BURLEY –Learn in small groups to converse in English at the church behind Dairy Queen, 2200 Oakley Avenue, in Burley at 7 p.m. The classes will be every Thursday.

Home Improvement Classes
BURLEY– The College of Southern Idaho’s Community Education Center is offering three non-credit home improvement courses taught by professional carpenter, Alan Hendry, at the Main Campus in Twin Falls and North Side Campus in Gooding.
Winter Wear, Spring Repair is taught May 15 & 16 at the Twin Falls Campus. The registration fee is $30 plus $8 for materials.
Decks and Outdoor Furniture is taught June 1 & 2 at the North Side Campus in Gooding. The registration fee is $40 plus $15 for materials.
Tools and Material is taught June 14 at the Twin Falls Campus and July 29 at the North Side Campus. The registration fee is $20 plus there is a $5 materials fee.
