In 2005, the City of Paul made the decision to purchase 11.5 acres of land to develop a New City Park. The Mayor and Council with community input thought it to be a good community project and it would not only benefit our own little community but the surrounding areas as well.
With this in mind, they decided that the City of Paul needed their own community gathering to hold in our new park. It was decided that we would begin the celebration before the park was built thus brought about what we call the “Paul Palooza”. After many dedicated hours of meetings held throughout the year, the Park/Palooza committee just held their fifth annual Paul Palooza on the 28th of August. The Palooza began at 11:00 a.m. with Otto Riedlinger and Lynn Haynes presenting colors, followed by the National Anthem sung by Kamie Fisher and Emily Silva.
On the Spot cleaning donated their time to prepare some delicious barbequed pulled pork sandwiches and hot dogs; part of the meat was donated by Swensen’s Market. Many women from the community donated baked goods for the baked food sale and Conrad May donated the kettle corn.
Teri Stabley set up a face painting booth and donated her time painting faces.
A karaoke contest was held for the older kids and a watermelon race for the younger ones. Cash prizes were given to the winners of the contests.
The Grand Prize drawing was presented to Eldina Haynes; it was a $500.00 gift certificate from Magic Valley Tire of Paul. Events like this would not be such a success without all the people that are willing to donate their time and goods to make it possible.
Our New City Park is coming along slowly, but we did not anticipate this project to be one that would be done in a hurry. It was to be built by community involvement, donated funds and grant money.
We are in the process of selling trees; those who purchase a tree will have a personalized plaque put up so everyone will know who it belongs too. People can also purchase items for the park such as benches, picnic tables and picnic shelters.
Our goal is to have walking paths with exercise stations placed randomly along the path, a spray park and playground equipment for the kids and lots of space to just hang out and be with friends and family.
So if you are looking for a good tax write-off, we will accept your donations.
Randy E. Jones, Mayor
