RUPERT – A new and exciting musical production will be coming to the Wilson Theater in Rupert on April 12, 2013 as part of an effort to raise funds for the “Rise Up and Sing” music camp scholarship.
According to organizers, a portion of the money will also be donated to help restoration efforts of the Wilson Theater.
The Rise Up and Sing music camp is held every summer and provides children interested in the performing arts and opportunity to train and develop their musical capabilities and talents.
The upcoming Seasons of Love is a celebration of Broadway music and performances through famous musical numbers centered on the timeless ideals of love.
“The show is a Broadway review and the idea is to take the audience on a trip through all the different kinds of friendships and romances that have happened on the Broadway stage,” said Producer Lori Wilson.
“People can expect to hear old favorites and contemporary pieces from Broadway.”
Selection for the Seasons of Love include “A Heart Full of Love” from Les Miserables, “Adelaide’s Lament” from Guys and Dolls and “The Song That Goes Like This” from Monty Python’s Spamalot.
Performances will also be drawn from Broadway productions of Rent, Oklahoma, Grease, Wicked and Shrek the Musical.
“It will be a great show with a cast of fun people who are talented stage veterans,” said Wilson.
The cast is comprised of nine individuals local to the area. Cast members are Kyrstin & Casey Tindall, Andy Smithson, Trina Smith, Rob Newman, Lori Wilson, Felicia Poteet, Makyla Barras and Toby Peterson.
The production organizers hope to entertain the audience with the Broadway review as well as introduce them to the historic Wilson Theater.
“We’re excited for people to come inside the theater and see what’s been done,” Wilson said.
“They’ll get a chance to see where their donated money is being used in the theater project but also get a taste of what the theater can be and what kind of shows can take place there. We want people to see the grandeur that can be brought back to the Wilson Theater.”
Tickets can be purchased from Welch Music in Burley and The Book Store in Rupert. For more information about the Rise Up and Sing music camp, please visit the official Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/RiseUpAndSing or contact Lori Wilson at (208) 431-2313.
