Boyer Corporation reports to Burley council

BURLEY – Cameron Cook, a representative for the Boyer Company, presented a site report on the Burley-Heyburn Industrial Park to the Burley City Council during Tuesday night’s meeting.

Cook discussed the improvements and enhancements that have been made to the industrial park since the Boyer Company took charge of the site in 2004. According to Cook, the industrial park employees approximately 242 employees and has seen a gradual increase in revenue from 2004-2011.

Cook also cited in his report the many improvements that have been made to the industrial park since 2004. Improvements such as the demolition, clean-up and debris removal of the old processing plant that was located on the site. Cook also mentioned other improvements to the park in terms of racking installation for the Simplot facilities, maintenance and landscaping on the grounds, and tenant improvements for the different tenants located at the industrial park.

The Boyer Company also pays a rental fee to the City of Burley for their use and management of the park. Cook reported approximately $51,000 in rental fees paid to the City of Burley that stem from the industrial park.

Cook also stated that the park has experienced positive growth over the years since its installation.

“We’ve really seen an uptake in the industrial side of things,” said Cook.

Burley City Council member expressed the benefits of the industrial park and the improvements that have been implemented by the Boyer Company since the park’s inception.

“That [industrial park] has really improved that property,” said Council President Casey Andersen, “I’m pleased with how it’s been managed.”

In other city council business, Adam Haynes was unanimously approved for his appointment to sit on the Library Board for the Burley Public Library.

The council also approved that their March 6 Burley City Council meeting was moved to Wednesday, March 7 in order to allow council members and Burley citizens the opportunity to attend the Republican Party Caucus that will be held at the King Fine Arts Center.

The Republican Caucus will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. on March 6. A caucus is different from a primary in that a caucus requires voters to stay for the duration of the event in order to deliver votes in person. Discussion and debate from candidates will also take place at the caucus as well as the elimination of candidates. Participants will continue to vote until one candidate has secured 50% or more of the votes.

The Caucus doors will open at 5:30 p.m. on March 6 and will close promptly at 7:00 p.m. Those wishing to attend must be in line before 7:00 in order to register as a Republican and to participate in the caucus. The Democratic Caucus will be held April 14.
