BURLEY – One might not think of specialty breads, pizza, candies and jewelry going together, but only if they have not met Ray Hohosh.
Hohosh recently turned the former Golden Goose into a specialty shoppe, renting part of the space to seasonal and/or niche stores and keeping half for himself to do the things he loves best.
As a 32-year veteran jeweler, Hohosh cannot get far away from the exquisite beauty and glamour of gem stones, but the recent economic downturn also makes those items a luxury – so he has turned his second love – cooking – into an interim profession.
The “Old School Bakers and Candymakers” Shoppe, which touts such items as baguettes, specialty breads, the best pizza in town (complete with Hohosh’s own select sauces) and all kinds of hand-dipped chocolates and other candies is a place that should not be ignored this holiday season. (Or any other time for that matter!)
Those looking for select candies – not just the run-of-the-mill boxed kinds – need look no further, because Ray has candies that will make your taste buds do the Macarena!!! He not only hand dips all his chocolates, but all the centers are homemade as well.
“Some people have come in and wonder why there is so little in here, but I am trying to do both the jewelry and the baking by appointment, if you will, so that we don’t throw out a bunch of items (that is the food, not the jewelry) that don’t sell,” Hohosh said.
“Orders can be called in one day and picked up the next (with the exception of some of his breads, which require 48 hours for the dough to cure.)”
So those looking for a slightly different twist on their holiday edibles need to take the time to stop by Hohosh’s shop and at least taste some of the delicious fare there.
The shop is located at 1229 Overland Avenue, where the Golden Goose was located. Ray can be reached by calling, 878-5660, or his cell phone at 801-791-7339.
While there, let Ray show you the custom jewelry which he specializes in.
