BURLEY – The Mini-Cassia Lincoln Day Lunch took place on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at the Burley Best Western Convention Center. The lunch is an annual event for local Republicans in order to raise funds for politics.

The event’s keynote speaker was U.S. Congressman Mike Simpson who celebrated and congratulated the victories of Republicans during the course of the previous year.

“What a difference a year makes,” Simpson stated enthusiastically, “For the first time since World War II we have stopped Federal spending.”

Simpson went on to highlight some of his accomplishments in Washington D.C.

The congressman cited the increased funding for the Bureau of Land Management, the de-listing of wolves from the endangered species list for Idaho as well as the elimination of over twenty programs in the interior budget.

These accomplishments were named as some of the major contributors to the Republican party’s success over the year.

“That’s what it means to be a Republican in Washington DC,” said Simpson.

Other speakers at the event included Idaho State Republican Party Chairman Norm Semanko who rallied the crowd in attendance with his opening remarks.

“We have one goal,” said Semanko, “And that is to make Barack Obama a one-term president!”   The Lincoln Day Lunch has been an annual event for the Mini-Cassia area Republicans for many years and this year’s celebration was considered a great success by those in attendance.
