INKOM – A two vehicle accident on I-15 south of Pocatello sent two men to the hospital on Saturday.

Idaho State Police investigated the injury crash, where Steven A. Shade, 60, of Ogden, Utah, was northbound in a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado when he lost control of his vehicle on wet pavement. The rear of Shade’s pickup struck the guardrail on the right shoulder and then swung into the path of a 2003 Kenworth semi-tractor pulling a 2006 Wilson Trailer which was also traveling northbound.

Upon impact, the driver of the semi, C.J. Palmer, 29, of Rupert, lost control of his vehicle. Both the semi and the pickup careened through the guardrail and down a 50-foot embankment, coming to rest at the bottom of the ravine.

Shade and Palmer were both transported by ground ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center, along with Shade’s passenger, Tyson W. Shade, 25, also of Ogden.

Both men in the pickup were wearing their seatbelts. Palmer reportedly was not wearing his seatbelt, according to the police report.

The northbound lanes of I-15 were blocked for nearly three hours while emergency crews worked to remove the wreckages.
