Obituary: Delphie Valdez

RUPERT – Delphie Rebecca Valdez, 85, of Rupert, Idaho, died peacefully at home with her family by her side on Sunday, January 20, 2013.

Delphie was born on February 1, 1927 in Capulin, Colorado, where she was one of eight children, to Francisco and Juanita Vigil of New Mexico.

Delphie was a wonderful, kind, warming, lovable mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.  She never complained nor wanted to be a bother or burden to anyone, in spite of her years of being diabetic.  Delphie always had a kind word and a big smile for anyone she came in contact with.

She married Marcelino Valdez in 1956 and they moved from Colorado to Idaho, where they made their life and family together.  Delphie was employed at J. R. Simplot for 25 years until she retired.  She was a wonderful, strong, hard working mother that raised her eight children to become amazing adults.

We want to thank Cassia Intermountain Care, Minidoka Memorial, and all the friends and family for all their kindness, patience, caring, prayers and strength to help all of us through this time of need.  God has taken his angel back because he needed her more than we did.  We love you, mom, and will see you again.

Delphie was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Mercedes; her brother, Frank; her grandson Troy; great granddaughter Deonne; and her loving husband Marelino “Max” Valdez.

She is survived by her children: John (Dee) Martinez, Jim (Marva) Martinez, Janet (Tony) Lara, Max (Luz) Valdez, Judy (Phil) Sillin, Jerry (Kathy) Valdez, Jody (Stacie) Valdez, Jeff (Eric) Valdez, along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren that loved her dearly.  Mom (Grammy), you will truly be missed.

A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m.,  Saturday, January 26, 2013, at St Nicholas Catholic Church, 802 F St, in Rupert, with Father Justin Brady as Celebrant.  Interment will follow at the Rupert Cemetery.  A gathering for family and friends will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 25th, with a Reading of the Rosary at 7 p.m. at the church.  Arrangements are under the direction of Hansen Mortuary.
